Do you compare yourself to others?

Do you see others whose life seems to be great, and you imagine that they have it all together?

Well most of us try to look like we have it all together, that’s the face we all want to show the world.

But here’s a secret…absolutely NO ONE has it all together!

Because the nature of life is to always throw curve balls at us.

To be alive means to experience constant changes and challenges.

One person might have a great body and eat a healthy diet, but they have a painful relationship with their father.

Someone else might have great family relationships, but they just can’t stay out of debt.

Another person may be perfectly groomed and dress beautifully, but they are addicted to pain pills.

In these three examples, you can SEE what’s going well, but you can’t SEE the challenges.

I talk with tons of people about their very personal lives, and I guarantee you that EVERYONE has challenges.

When we compare ourselves to others, we only see the surface appearance they show to the world, and we don’t see their struggles.

Therefore, comparisons are NEVER accurate, because we don’t have the whole picture.

For most of us, if we really knew the challenges others face, we’d rather keep the challenges we have.

If it helps you feel better, you can play a little game with yourself.

The next time you see someone who seems to have it all together…imagine they have a challenge that isn’t visible,

but that you would HATE to have.

For example, “she looks beautiful, but she has incurable halitosis.”

Or, “he looks rich and successful, but he’s impotent.”

Hopefully, it won’t take long for you to get over making negative comparisons about yourself!

Then maybe you can move up a step in your personal growth, and acknowledge to yourself, that we really are all just human beings.

We all try to look good, but we all have challenges of some sort.

So…bottom line, stop making comparisons, and just love yourself (and everyone else, too).

That will make life a lot more fun!
